Where do we go first for advice on opening a small learning centre? Does anyone know any legal requirements? It would be an English centre run by professionals. Any advice very welcome. If you know a company who can give advice please let us know
I know that if you have over a certain number of students, and/or a certain number in any one class, you have to be registered as a school. Also there are bound to be requirements to do with fire exits and toilets. I agree with 056F, contact the EDB to find out what's needed.
It really depends on the age group that you plan to have in your learning centre as well. There are two bodies that govern a learning centre. If the children are below three years the centre is governed by Social Welfare services and its ordinance. Once the children attending are over three years and olver you fall under the EMB guidelines, which basically will not allow you to operate without a license if you have more than 7 children in any one class and you must not have more than 15 children in any one day (this was the law 18 months ago when I looked into it).
You need to meet all the criteria for a license and the Fire Services will also have a role to play.
That being said PLENTY of people rent small apartments and houses and just go for it - it depends on how professional you are and what type of insurance you have. It also depends on how you plan to grow your business as if you want it to be profitable and increase in size, without the license you may be thwarted.
